I think Meera Shankar needs to be fired. Its bloody 2010 and this is the kind of customer service the indian consulates provide - they dont pick up calls - it takes them a month to issue new passports - Always feel ashamed to be an indian any time I have to deal with these useless consulates.
The Houston consulate does not even have their address properly listed on their website.
This is what they have listed
1990, Post Oak Boulevard,

Houston TX 77056
So what is the correct address ?? Is it 1990 Post Oak Blvd or 3 Post Oak Central ?? Bunch of freaking idiots is what we have in all these US consulates.
You are absolutely right. I dealt with the Embassy of India, washington DC to get my daughters PIO card. Back then we were asked to send stamped return envelope. And guess what, they would call you and scold you for not sending the envelope and ask you to mail another MO for $20.00. That's soooo cheap and totally unethical and I felt ashamed that our Government employees are doing this on a foreign soil.
I dont understand from where they hire these goons to work at the consulates. Usually the ladies are very rough when they talk on the phone (well!! it may just be a coincidence).

What if we used so much of our time and energy in finding jobs in India/China and moving back, instead of going after media/govt? :confused:
Some of us have spent $35-40 on sending flowers, if we gave a internet job board that kind of money to send our resumes to prospective employers and headhunters in India, we may have a chance in finding a job in the emerging economy of India/China.. that will be THE biggest impact on US Govt... To add to my opinion, I would like to direct your attention to Microsoft... They didn't waste their resources on fighting the media, govt.. they just moved to Canada.. And believe me, there will be more such instances...
Agreed totally. Indian economy is booming and will last for another 5 to 10 years. Waiting for green card will make you lose out both the Indian opportunity as well as the "so called" American dream. People with decent experience are making good money and nothing better than living closer to friends and relatives.

If all those demands, that you blame, are passed - PD will move by at least a couple of years. Many, if not all, will be able to apply and get GCs faster too (as GCs are given by PD). That will definitely help the oldtimers.
I support your cause. It should be possible to apply 485 even if dates are not current. However, it's never achieved by creating acrimony in the EB Immigrant community - H1 vs EAD, H1 vs F1, Oldtimer vs NewComer etc.
There used to be a time when the ability to apply for I485 even during retrogression. was of the highest priority for IV. Now majority of the IV members (hopefully) belong to post I485 filing group. Now the amount of green cards for employment category, exemptions from quota for family members, US degree holders etc, and country quota may be the higher priority issues if one goes by the numbers.

The date was current from July 1 with my PD Aug 2005. I have my 140 approved already.

I understand they release new numbers every quarters ( Jan-Feb-March).
Since all those numbers are already used up. we should not expect any movement in Feb and March either.

There is no such law that specifies any duration one has to be employed by GC (or AC-21) employer. Period.

I talked to the employer and he says that this is a standard clause that is put in almost every company's offer letter. While I am experienced and dont need trainings, there are other candidate who will go through some trainings prior to start of work. The company does not want to loose the training costs incurred for those candidates who may leave them just after completing the training. And hence the clause.
I need one advise from you all...In case I do not take any training from the company, and decide to leave the company after some duration, will I be liable to pay something to the company considering the above clause? Is there a way the company can prove that I went through a training when I actually did not? Is my position safe?
