Washington - Colorado's Rep. Tom Tancredo and 70 other U.S. representatives sent a letter today to a Senate committee, warning that legislation it's considering allowing illegal immigrants to work legally in the country will hit a roadblock if it comes back to the House.
The Senate's Judiciary Committee for the last two weeks has been debating an immigration reform bill that includes what's being called a “guest worker” program, something President Bush said he wants.
“We are concerned that some of these proposals are fundamentally incompatible with the desire of the American public for real immigration reform and their clear opposition to reform proposals that amount to little more than thinly disguised attempts to provide amnesty," the House members said in the letter.
“If the Senate were to pass such a proposal, we believe it would doom any chance of a real reform bill reaching the president's desk this year.
Tancredo, R-Littleton, and the other 70 lawmakers were part of a group that led the passage of a bill in the House that imposes new border security measures, including increasing penalties for being in the country illegally.
The House bill does not include a guest-worker provision. The group considers allowing illegal immigrants to stay in the country legally a form of amnesty.
“Rewarding persons who have broken the law with an advantage that they would not otherwise have had encourages more illegal behavior and is unjust to immigrants who came to the U.S. legally,'' the letter says.
Reps. Bob Beauprez, R-Arvada, and Joel Hefley, R-Colorado Springs, are among those who signed the letter.
The Senate Judiciary Committee is not expected to finish work on the bill this week, which was the deadline given by Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist. He is expected to introduce his own bill possibly today that includes border security measures and does not have a guest worker provision.

Is your NC cleared? If yes, shouldn't you have received your gc in early 2007 itself before July 07 messed up EB3?
Even if its not cleared, you would have surely crossed 180-day barrier, yes?
I'm not EB3 but if you can post updates in this thread related to your case, it would satisfy some of my curiosity.
I don't know if my NC is cleared. Tried to find it couple of times calling over phone but always ran into unfriendly IO officers.
Got out of BEC in dec 2006, I140 cleared in Jan 2007 but then my PD became current only in June 2007. And due to laziness of my law firm, my I-485 filing did not happen in June and got dragged into July 07 mess.
I think if USCIS had initiated my Namecheck as per normal timeline (sometime around when my I-485 filed , i.e anywhere between July - Sep 2007), then yes, I think it crossed 180 days long time back.

2+ 3 you are mentioning is where +3 = three year degree program like BSc / BCS/ BCom programs offered in India. Here I think we are discussing 3 year DIPLOMA program the eligiblity for which is 10th grade. After finishing this program in some universities you are waived 1st year coursework for the degree program in same field. So for regular people it is 10+2+4 to get a bachelors where as people taking the diploma route it is 10+3+3. So in this case of our friend his 10+3 is equivalent to completed only 1st year degree program. the +2 overlaps with what he has studied in +3 and the +1 in commerce will not be counted in coursework.
Anuj: What subject was your diploma was it a management diploma or engineering diploma? What was the eligiblity for the same? Was the institute reputed like does it have an entrance test? If yes do you know their acceptance rate? Might help in preparing a case

On a similar note, I kept reminding people at the DC rally to take it easy and walk slowly because the greencard office had closed early that day and they wouldn't get their GCs at the rally finish line, what was the hurry about? :)

Can someone tell me how to check whether Finger Printing is cleared and case has been sent/approved from FBI Name Check
FP status check phone is 304-625-5590. Name check is a different story. Write a letter to your congressman/senator or even Mr. President to inquiry about the name check status.

I am waiting for GC for buying a house myself. I am sure there are many more people who think this way esp in this market.
I am also waiting for a GC to buy a house ... can't buy on a H1 visa with a project that keeps on getting extended every 3-6 months. You need stability for at least a few years to put in a committment for a mortgage that you are going to pay for 30 years.

According to the 2005 memorandum, it was possible to change employers even if the 140 was not approved. But it was clear that an RFE that was not responded to, would deny everything.
Now it appears, they would require an approved 140.

I dont think Ron Hira has ever worked in IT side or on the HR side. Whats wrong if people for pursue for Masters or Phd for GC?. This Guy does not have any idea about the value this techs bring.
